Welcome, friends! Thank you for visiting my blog!
My name is Catherine Olivier and I am currently the orchestra director at J.T. Hutchinson Middle School in Lubbock, TX! I've taught privately for nine years and taught orchestra at Smylie Wilson Middle School and Monterey High School in Lubbock ISD. I'm also a co-director of the Lubbock ISD All-District Tango Orchestra, alongside my husband, which is the only ensemble that focuses on tango music and performance practice in United States for public high school students!
Though originally from El Paso, TX, I got my BME and MMEd, as well as my World Music Certificate in Tango Performance, from Texas Tech University. I am an active member of the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) and love to perform with the local and surrounding symphonies! In addition, I am a member of the incredible (and now recorded) tango band based out of Lubbock, Tango Llaneros!
My husband, Chase (ethnomusicologist and lead K-12 teacher at the Texas Tech University International Cultural Center), and I have two fur-children named Viola and Celli. Viola is almost 2 years old and is our dainty & social puppy while Celli, on the other hand, is about 6 months old and is a total bulldozer with a big heart.
